Parklife p22
Stanage plantation

Results from the eighth and final deployment of the Anabat recorder on the Peak District moors for this season have now been processed. At a site near Stanage Edge, in a tetrad with no previous bat records, 3 species were detected between 2nd to 7th October – common and soprano pipistrelles plus a Myotis bat.

The Autumn/Winter 2019 edition of the Peak District National Park’s magazine ParkLife has now been published with an article on page 22 about the Moor Bats monitoring project. It is free and available from visitor centres and tourist information centres throughout the Peak District as well as online.

To celebrate the 70 year anniversary of the National Park, local poet and musician Mark Gwynne Jones is compiling a soundscape, Voices from the Peak, which will be launched at two events in Castleton and Millers Dale next March. Bat calls recorded by our County Recorder Alan Roe will feature in the soundscape and a preview was heard on BBC Radio Derby on Wednesday 23rd October when Mark was interviewed on the Ian King show. The clip can be heard here starting at 1hr 52:30 minutes into the programme.
